Say hello!
Meet the people who work at eyeo, but don’t necessarily work at eyeo. Take a sneak peek at their lives and what it means to be part of a company that allows you to work anywhere in the world. Today, meet Anna, our Junior Social Media Manager.
Where in the world do you work?
I work in Cologne, usually three days a week from the office and two days from home. In 2017, I did my semester abroad in Korea and worked remotely from there for half a year. Sometimes, I also work from Kiev, Ukraine because I am originally from there and even though I’ve been living in Germany for 6 years now, I try to go to Kiev at least twice a year to spend some time with my family and friends and visit this beautiful city. And eat delicious food because we have so many awesome restaurants there!

Tell us a little about your role at eyeo
I started off as student help in Acceptable Ads monitoring. Later, I did an internship in social media and, after some time, transitioned to the Comms department. I am a Junior Social Media Manager, and I am responsible for the content on our social media channels.
What does your workday look like?
I like to start working early because I’m most productive in the mornings. When I’m doing home office, my workday usually starts at 8am. First thing I do every morning is make a big cup of green tea or chamomile tea, sit down, and write a plan for the day. I start working on tasks that I need to complete and usually have breakfast after 1 hour of work. Later in the afternoon, I usually have meetings or video-calls with my colleagues.
What’s so great about working remotely?
I love that it’s not a typical 9 to 6 job. I can be as flexible as I want and decide how and where I want to work. When I’m working from Kiev, I also get to spend more time with my family and my dog.

Where is your favorite place to work?
I don’t have one favorite place. I enjoy working from home and I can be very productive there, but sometimes it gets a bit lonely so I also really like going to the office and spending time with my colleagues.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I love traveling and I’ve been to 35 countries by now. I also read a lot and really like going for walks and spending time with my partner or my friends. But my main hobby is my YouTube channel. I make videos about my life in Germany, traveling, learning languages because I can speak 7 (not all of them fluently, of course), and fashion (because I used to work as a model). I also have a series called “Anna’s Book Club” where my subscribers and I discuss books we read. So a lot of my free time is devoted to filming, editing, and uploading videos, and later interacting with my audience.
If you are interested and happen to speak Russian, you can check out my channel just by searching my name on YouTube 🙂

You’re traveling for work and can only take a backpack. What do you pack?
My laptop, phone, headphones, chargers, wallet, passport, some clothes, Kindle.
What job would you be terrible at?
Bartender (or basically any job where you have to work late at night). Also, I think I could never work in sales.
What’s one gadget you can’t live without?
I don’t like to admit that there is a gadget I can’t live without, but it would probably be my smartphone.
What’s your favorite app?
Instagram because it is an extension to my YouTube channel. I share a lot on this platform and I feel a deeper connection with my audience there. It is also a great way to stay in touch with all my friends from all over the world and know what they are up to, even though I still believe that it is wrong to draw conclusions about someone’s life based only on what they post on social media. Personal contact is of course always better, but sometimes not possible.
Why did you join eyeo?
I always wanted to work in an international environment with people of different nationalities. Later, I learned just how awesome and unique eyeo culture is; I am honestly still amazed by it every day. My colleagues are great people with brilliant humour. I love the flexibility of my job, and the possibility to work from anywhere in the world.
The fact that the company trusted me back then when I was a student to work from Korea with a 7-hour time difference for half a year still amazes me (and I remember how all of my friends were shocked and a bit jealous). I haven’t seen any other company do that, and I am very grateful for all the opportunities eyeo has given me to this day.
I also truly believe in our mission and that what we are doing is good. I could never work in a company with values completely different to my own.
