Say hello!
Meet the people who work at eyeo, but don’t necessarily work at eyeo. Take a sneak peek at their lives and what it means to be part of a company that allows you to work anywhere in the world. Today, meet Diego, our resident Developer.
Where in the world do you work?
I work from Recife, in the northeast of Brazil. Its name derives from the word “arrecife”, which translates to “reef”. This name was chosen due to the large presence of stone reefs on our beautiful shores.

Tell us a little about your role at eyeo
I’m an Android developer, my main role is to help to create and maintain products that make our user’s mobile experience more pleasant.
What does your workday look like?
I wake up, prepare my breakfast (usually, I eat a sandwich, a fresh fruit mix, and a yogurt), go to my home-office, turn on my laptop, put on my headphones and start playing one of my favorite playlists. Due to the time-zone difference, I tend to have more meetings early in the morning. After that, I start working on my daily tasks.

What’s so great about working remotely?
Being able to travel while I’m working and not having to spend hours in traffic jams every day gives me great flexibility to experience new things and also saves me time to spend on other things that I enjoy.
Where is your favorite place to work?
I really enjoy working from home. Without any distractions, I can get stuff done quicker. I do also enjoy from time to time paying a visit to my colleagues, especially in our Cologne office.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I enjoy watching sci-fi series and Japanese animes. I’m also a music enthusiast, so I can play a bit of a few instruments (keyboards, guitar, bass). But the thing that I like most is travelling. Whenever I get a chance, I travel to some place that I have never been before to experience new cultures and food, and to make new friends.

You’re traveling for work and can only take a backpack. What do you pack?
In order of importance: Passport, toothbrush, clothes, laptop, headphones, portable charger, universal adapter.
What job would you be terrible at?
Sport’s athlete. It requires lots of physical training, which I’m not really fond of.
What’s one gadget you can’t live without?
Without thinking twice, my smartphone.
What’s your favorite app?
The app that I use most is the maps app. Whenever I’m just searching for the best traffic route or exploring new places, this is my companion app.
Why did you join eyeo?
I was approached by eyeo because of some open-source libraries that I maintained for Android. It was a difficult decision at the time, because I was pretty happy with my old job. But I decided to get out of my comfort zone and hop aboard with this new opportunity. This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, the people at eyeo are amazing and the work is exciting and challenging. As a long-time user of Adblock Plus for Firefox, little did I know that one day I would be working for the company behind it.
