Say hello!
Meet the people who work at eyeo, but don’t necessarily work at eyeo. Take a sneak peek at their lives and what it means to be part of a company that allows you to work anywhere in the world. Today, meet Andy, our iOS developer/beer enthusiast!
Where in the world do you work?
I spend most of my time in the wonderful city of Prague, Czech Republic. Having lived here for nearly 10 years (I’m originally from Birmingham, UK), I can happily say it’s my favourite city in the world.
Tell us a little about your role at eyeo
The role is quite dynamic; with a variety of products to work on, it really is the case where no two days are the same. Balancing development of iOS and macOS products, plus planning for upcoming products makes for a wide-range of tasks (and enjoyable meetings).
What does your workday look like?
I’m not the best morning person, so I spend the first hour or so drinking coffee in near silence, staring aimlessly out of a window.
But after that, headphones on and I get to work. My working location varies from home-office, to cafe, to co-working space. Today I’m working from a co-working space, casually tanning in the cool, sunny September weather.
What’s so great about working remotely?
As a remote worker, my hours are flexible and I can choose where I want to work, whether that’s in Prague, or somewhere else around the world. Having these possibilities really helps me to be more productive. I’ve always felt that I work better in the evenings, and because of eyeo’s flexibility, I can do just that! (we still have daytime meetings though).
Where is your favorite place to work?
It really varies day-to-day; I do enjoy a quiet environment though most times, so if it’s not at the co-working space, it’s mostly at home.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I actually have quite a variety of hobbies/interests. I spend a lot of time rock climbing, playing golf and boxing, but outside of the realm of sports, I’m an avid home brewer! I have a dream of opening my own craft beer brewery someday, so keep your eyes peeled for “Curly Brewing Company”.

You’re travelling for work and can only take a backpack. What do you pack?
Laptop. That’s about it. Maybe suntan lotion.
What job would you be terrible at?
Hostage negotiation. Though I’ve never tried it, so…
What’s one gadget you can’t live without?
Nowadays, probably a coffee machine. I’m occasionally trying to channel my inner Luddite to tear myself away from computer screens outside of working hours, but a coffee machine is slowly becoming a best friend.
What’s your favourite app?
Foursquare. I travel a lot so whenever I go to a new city, aside from asking the locals where to visit and what to eat, it provides a lot of cool tips about neighbourhoods. The next trip is to Portugal, so I’m looking forward to what the place has to offer.
Why did you join eyeo?
I joined eyeo because I’ve used Adblock Plus for years and simply wanted to work on a great product and to push the company further. I stayed because I fell in love with the team and the company culture. As a remotee, I only tend to visit the office in the summer and winter for the ‘remotee week’, but every time I do it’s like meeting up with my second family. With so many people from so many different backgrounds, it makes for a great place to work, and a great group to share experiences with.
