Say hello!
Meet the people who work at eyeo, but don’t necessarily work at eyeo. Take a sneak peek at their lives and what it means to be part of a company that allows you to work anywhere in the world. Today, meet Dorel, one of our resident QA Engineers!
Where in the world do you work?
I work from Beius, a small town in the North-West of Romania.

Tell us a little about your role at eyeo
I’m a QA Engineer ensuring the quality of our websites. My work usually involves manually testing changes across multiple browsers, finding and posting bugs, making sure they are fixed, and also automating some of the more important workflows.
What does your workday look like?
I wake up, get dressed (but do not drink coffee – I know, shocker – just never picked up this habit), sit down in my office and quickly check my email, the team chat, the calendar, and the iteration board. I then plan my day and go downstairs to get a quick breakfast. Work till noon, get some lunch, then work through the rest of the day.

What’s so great about working remotely?
I can work from my hometown, which wouldn’t be possible otherwise since there is not one single IT-related company in the town. But this way, I am able to live where I want, close to my family, close to my friends, enjoying life in this beautiful region.
Obviously, there is no commute – I previously lived in Cluj-Napoca for 7 years and I was losing over an hour every day with the commute.
I am not limited in choosing the best option available in the area; I can choose to work for an awesome company, like eyeo, around the world without having to relocate.
Where is your favorite place to work?
I’m maybe not your typical remote worker with coffee-shop offices. Although I sometimes change the scenery, I usually work from my home office because that’s where I’m most productive. I have a dedicated room at home which fits my desk, a piano, a guitar and a pull-up bar. I’ve read somewhere that it’s confusing for the brain to do all your activities in the same room, so this separation helps and I don’t spend much time in this room once the work day is over.
What do you do when you’re not working?
We have some great hills, fields, forests, and rivers really close to where I live – I like going on walks with my wife near these places. Both our parents live in towns nearby so we’ll pay them a visit at least once a week. We have a Fifa night with our friends every week. I’m also into mountain biking. And of course, I watch a movie pretty much every night before going to sleep.

You’re traveling for work and can only take a backpack. What do you pack?
Laptop, clothes, iPhone, chargers, Apple watch, noise-canceling headphones, toiletries.
What job would you be terrible at?
ER nurse – hate hospitals, wounds, blood, night shifts. Big respect for all medical personnel.
What’s one gadget you can’t live without?
“Can’t live without” is an overstatement for so many reasons, but my most useful gadget has to be my iPhone.
What’s your favorite app?
It has to be my banking app – because I just find it so convenient to pay bills, transfer money, exchange currency without having to actually go to the bank and waste time in lines, like we used to do it not too long ago.
Why did you join eyeo?
I was searching for a new job at the time and saw this ad for the job. I took a look at the company and was really happy about the fact that eyeo was developing a product I’ve been using for years. I liked the overall vibe I got from the company and proceeded with my application. Things got even better when I started working and met all my wonderful colleagues. I’ve stayed because I like what I’m doing, I’ve stayed because of the great team, I’ve stayed because of the great care I’ve seen eyeo display for its employees.
